Gregory Fiocca, cello principal
Akron native, Gregory Fiocca, serves as the Principal Cellist of Akron Baroque, while holding the same position for Mastersingers Inc. of Northern Ohio. His career of over twenty-five years includes an eclectic blend of performances ranging from orchestral, chamber music and solo to Broadway shows, jazz, and rock. His collaborative work with singers has been heralded as some of the "finest and sparkling continuo playing in the region". In addition, he continues to be a driving force for the arts in the Akron area. Mr. Fiocca has served as the Principal Cellist of the Akron Symphony Orchestra, Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, and as Assistant Principal Cellist with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony and the Renaissance City Chamber Players of Detroit. An avid teacher, Mr. Fiocca has taught cello at Allegheny College and Western Reserve Academy. Currently he maintains a private studio in Kent, Ohio. Mr. Fiocca was one of the first winners of the Tuesday Musical Club Scholarship Competition while attending the Peabody Conservatory of Music Pre-College Division where he was a student of Stephen Kates. He holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Juilliard School where he was a student of Leonard Rose and Channing Robbins.
