Cory Smith, violinist, balances his musical life in NE Ohio between studio teaching, chamber music, and orchestral playing. Mr. Smith is a 17-year member of the Akron Symphony Orchestra and also performs with the Blossom Festival Orchestra, Canton Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and serves as concertmaster for Mastersingers Inc. of Northern Ohio. He has also enjoyed touring solo recitals throughout Michigan, Pennsylvania, New England, and Ohio. Mr. Smith’s musical study began in the state of Washington where he was born and raised and received a Bachelor of Music from Pacific Lutheran University under the training of the Heifetz protégé Ann Tremaine. Traveling to Ohio to study with Alan Bodman, he completed a Masters of Music at the University of Akron where they now, years later, serve on the violin faculty together. In addition to his university teaching Mr. Smith maintains a large private studio. Mr. Smith has studied chamber music extensively under the Tokyo, Philadelphia, Miami, and Concord String Quartets and served on the chamber music faculty at the Meadowmount School of Music. He has also served on the music faculties of the College of Wooster and Malone College. During the summer he and his wife, Ann Smith, principal violist, and their three wonderfully lively sons - Isaiah, Samuel, and Levi - live in Plymouth, NH where they are members of the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra.
